I'm coming over for the Big Day Out, so I'll come have a look at the Toyoshow on either the Sat or Sun...
I should be driving the RA28 over also, so I might organise to meet up with a few of you!
74sLeeka's also heading to SA in Feb, and I'm trying to convince him to go at the same time so that there'll be a mini Celica convoy from Melb to Adel...

As long as its not total garbage a little rough is fine to be in the show. Most of the cars that attend with be daily driven and 165s are oh-so-cool :)
The cruise is slated to start at about 1900 on the friday.

The only way i can enter you in the dyno shoot out is that you pay the $40. for the Dyno & Show witch also gets you a entrant T-Shirt and goody bag worth about $20. But you dont have to come to the show if you cant make it.
Please down load the entry form and get it to us as soon as you can just a few places left for the Dyno..... www.toyoshow.com.au

I just want to know how the same person can win a prize for originality, a prize for Maiden or Modifed (which, presumably, would have to be a modified car) and win ToyoChamp (ToyoChump?) which apparently needs to be good on the street (cruise), good on the dyno and good in the show and shine.
I fail to see how an original AE112R Sportivo Turbo with 97fwkw meets any/all or these criteria.
Also, what happened to original before 1985? I only heard awards for original '99 and original 2000.

i went down to this show around 2pm , an thought it was going to be something big and really out there to see what S.A has to offer
but was dissapointed to see almost nothing, sorry the only thing that really stood out to me was the celica car club which tried to have a little beach theme going on with the boogy boards an buckets an also the s.a supra carclub with there super clean cars to me thats what a car show should be of .
also to know that there was no 70s model corolla down there , i was going to bring my ke20 corolla out to show but had resently blown an engine last week out at murry bridge autofest. so i would have been the only 70s model corolla out there.
ok enough of my little winge,

It was more a gathering of Toyota owners than an actual 'Show'
It was still good to see cars out there..but unlike other shows....most of the Toyota's here are daily drivers, and hence were neither stock..nor standard, perhaps dropping the standard a little. At least it was in Glenelg where other sources of entertainment is possible..as opposed to last years...where Birdwood Museum was a little boring after a while!
i actually would have liked to see the dyno run, on the same day...as in...at the reserve itself...similar to autosalon style. would've kept everyone interested rather than sitting around waiting for 330pm
Starfire
04-02-2007, 08:41 PM
I'm sorry to hear that some of you guys weren't impressed by the show. We certainly tried really hard to make it worthwhile.
It is correct that most of the cars are daily driven, but this show is more for the entrants than the spectators. Most of the people I spoke to that had a car present had a good time. The heat was a little opressive but we can't do anything about that.
We did inquire about having a dyno on site but there were a few things that prevented it this year - firstly it would cost us at least $2000 to get it there for the day, as well as the fact that the council didnt like the idea. It also would have made quite a difference to our insurance costs.
We will look in to the possibility of having a dyno onsite again next year though.
If anyone has any constructive criticism or suggestions, please feel free to let us know. We put the show on for you guys after all. It doesnt have a huge budget and it is still in it's infancy. With the change of location we hope to attract more entrants next year and hope to see a higher standard of car, but not the exclusion of the daily drivers.
Not me. I was quite impressed with the show and thought you guys did a great job of running it.
Congrats!
I took a heap of photos as normal, ill put em up later.
Oh... and yeah, way to spoil a decent GT4, that airbrushing was terrible!!

Hey don't get me wrong Starfire, i had a nice time.
I'm just suggesting that perhaps the gang could organise a few more activities other than car revving to get the crowd and participants involved. even if its a massive undercover tent where people can mingle and sit down. i understand the costs involved and all, but it would be mighty cool to have that dyno on-site.
How about some eye-candy walking around handing out.....stuff.....like.....drinks! or maybe apply sunscreen on that hard-to-reach spot.;)
and just as a very random suggestion, is it possible to have the gathering at Collingrove? than when people are bored, can go for a run through the track!

She had a list of the mods on the board in front of the car. To me all it seemed to be was the usual turbo mods (2.25? inch exhaust, FMIC), some rims and a mp3 headunit. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice car. But I still can't see it as the best Toyota there out of all of the others.

I'm not sure about the pre-85 catagory, I'll check that out with sean later, but apparently the judges were really big on cleanliness and presentation, while being really picky on details.
Most of the cars weren't particularly clean, especially underneath (yes they did check under the cars).
One car in particular almost picked up the Toyochamp, but failed to have his engine bay open, and as such missed out on all the points associated with that.

That 89 Supra is in fact an 86.5 MA70, which I detailed for my friend for HER first show.
For a chick to get a couple of trophy plates in her first show, I think its a great effort. Looks like we have some sore losers here in the Toymods community.
Shame to see that sort of mentality getting around really.

Agreed.
Although i guess the limiting factor on choice was that the entrant had to participate in all 3 events.
Brad (the silver RA60) was a little annoyed he didnt go on the cruise... he would have had a decent chance at the top prize :(
One car in particular almost picked up the Toyochamp, but failed to have his engine bay open, and as such missed out on all the points associated with that.
The purple Supra?
I guess the engine bay wasnt open because it was non-turbo so not much to show off in there.
BTW... you guys should have told the GT4 & Prius owners to wash thier cars on arrivial.
I thought it was pretty crappy seeing them like that.

Sore losers?!? I don't think the problem was with it being owned by a chick, the problem is that the award was supposed to be for year 2000+, so a 1986.5 model car winning it is a bit strange.

Anyway, I had a nice enough time. Was the first time I'd entered in a car show so I was preoccupied enough with that. Agreed there could have been more entertainment. A dyno slot, some games, Nitro RC cars?, raffle, shit like that.
Anyway, it was cool to meet some of the local toyota owners and just hang out a bit. Cheers to everyone that organised it.

I would never class them as "rare"... They are "not common" beacuse they were to stupidly overpriced from the factory!
There were 110 sportivo turbo corollas built, of which 10 were used in mandatory crash testing. I'd call that pretty rare...

Someone really cant read, can they "Gavatron"
Encouragement award for the DYNO.
*sigh*. Does Toymods sell reading glasses?
And to win the ToyoChamp award you had to do well on the cruise (ie finish it), score BIG POINTS in the dyno and do well in the show and shine. That was what was said when the award was being presented.
I fail to see how you can get 'Big Points' in the dyno then need encouragement. And I don't see how 97kw is equal to 'Big Points' when it was less that a 1/3 of the power of the winner.

Looks to me that Gavatron could read quite well, and his point was very valid there "AE35"

So this basically stock Corolla Sportivo Turbo was chosen, as the best at Toyoshow, to represent the South Australian Toyota community at the upcoming Street Machine Show n Shine!!!
So, will she be entering it in Summernats also?

1. It wasnt stock. Do some research. Then maybe your points might be "valid".
2. I believe it was a FEMALE that owns the car "twentyEight".

basically stock
99.99% of people on this forum would class a car with an exhaust, upgraded FMIC, aftermarket wheels, and an MP3 player as the only upgrades as basically stock! (I would also like to see a photo of this FMIC, as the factory ones were a hell of alot more than enough for most cars)
As for the sex of the owner, that is fixed!

What is themods list on the Corolla so we can lay this one to rest?
FFS, dont you guys read.
To be Toyochamp you HAD TO participate in all 3 events.
Yes, other cars/people were more deserving of the award by they didnt show for the Cruise and/or Dyno.
Out of the people that did do all 3, her car was obviously the best.
There should be nothing more to say!

Maybe they should have given the Aurion the ToyoChamp award. It went on the cruise, it went to the dyno day (and pulled more power than the Sportivo) and it was at the show and shine. Plus being a new car it would have to have been the cleanest car there.
INSTANT WINNER!

Ha ha thats funny but actually could be true nonetheless when you think about it.
There was only 17 cars that did all 3 events IIRC

Like any true enthusiast Lesley knows a lot about her car.
The Aurion probably could have been a contender if it was cleaned and if it were entered for judginig.
It was on display from Toyota Australia.
Thanks Starfire and Blue_Stivo.
Seriously people, this has gone on long enough.
I'm not going to reply here anymore unless its absolutely necessary.
The judges had the last word and their word is final and there isnt anything anyone can do about it.

You're missing my point Bigworm.
The category was Original TO 1999. :)
According to the TCC forum a 1988 model supra won 2000+, a 1994 supra came second in 2000+ and an 89 supra came in third. I guess you could call that being a sore loser as it was an owner of a similar year model car complaining about the inaccurate awards, but really none of these cars were in that category, winners or "losers".
I for one know how hard it is & how much organisation goes into putting on events of this size as I used to be a board member of Toymods, so I appreciate how hard it is to get it all running smoothly & organised well. I guess some credit must go to the effort put in, but some valid points have been made.
The organisers also can't be blamed for the calibre of cars that entered, while there was some genuinely well built & well modified cars there I have a particular dislike of pointless cars, of which there were a few (adding bodykits, shiny wheels, big wings, bad airbrushing, stereos with more power than the engines, "painted hubs", tacky interiors etc to naturally aspirated automatic supras or celicas is something I just don't understand  ).
But the judging obviously did leave alot to be desired, especially after reading the thread on TCC. It seems that the judges were simply looking for the cleanest cars, & had no interest in mods that were purposefull or effective. It has been said that maybe this should be changed to encourage more cars that would be classed as tough streeters. Judging cars that are daily driven, make hundreds of kilowatts and competed in the cruise & dyno comp on how clean they are seems to me to miss the point.
But it sounds like there's plenty of people that have voiced similar grievances with the system on TCC.
One of the results I was most dissapointed with was the number plate award. Having ELCARIM (miracle backwards) on an N/A automatic supra with a bodykit & rims doesn't make much sense to me, what is the miracle part? I would have liked to see this one go to a car that has a number plate that goes some way toward tying in with the general theme of the car, & even though the PHNTOM supra & ON FIRE celica were totally not my cup of tea, their no plates at least tied in with some sort of theme on the cars (one was purple like the phantom [] and the other had a half naked fireman painted on the door, & was fire engine red), & to me were more deserving than the miracle supra. But mostly I thought my Cressy, with it's 1JZCYA number plates and 219kW & 12 sec quarter mile credentials was most deserving (call me biased  ).
But once again, I know how big a job it all is, & as long as the organisers can take away some ideas to improve the event for next year I guess that can't be a bad thing. Hopefully some of the entrants return with a few more purposefull mods too.

A couple more things, it looks like with a good enough clean my daily driver cressida would have been a contender for toyochamp, which I didn't really anticipate (not leaving the cruise after the first stop in a cloud of tyre smoke might also have helped  ) as I had higher expectations of other entrants which were ultimately unfullfilled, and also awards for street sleeper and/or (as previously mentioned) tuff streeter, ie cars that have power, handling & stopping ability as well as being clean & even a bit blingy on the outside would be a good idea.
There are some great valid points that have been posted in your reply Bigworm.
It's good to see someone not having a slinging match in here for once.
I for one, would like to see individual 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000+ categories for next years event.
The judges should also have checked the year of manufacture of the participating vehicles to avoid confusion in the categories that were present this year.
I believe some categories were pulled due to not enough entrants when the Toyoshow award plates had been made and therefore there was no pre-1985 category this year for example.
All in all, its a learning curve for the organisers and entrants on what they can improve on next year. I'd also like to see the judges stick to a certain criteria for certain categories, not just the cleanest overall vehicle, as this would make the competition more fierce and more demanding on the judges.
For the 1986.5 MA70 Supra that placed 3rd in the Original To 1999 category which was owned by my best friend, I had no idea that the bonnet's had to be up for judging so I got to work detailing that engine bay as soon as I found out that her vehicle was being judged and it had a filthy engine bay to begin with.
Maybe with the entrant information packs that are sent out in the future, there should also be a general listing as to what the judges will be looking for when judging each car. This way people will actually be prepared for the event and the standard of the vehicles will be raised and this will make the competition more even throughout the field.
Also in saying that, having vehicles that hadn't even been detailed "Prius for example" shouldn't have been allowed on the ground as I'm pretty sure I read that all vehicles entering the show and shine had to be clean upon arrival.
That's my 2c worth anyway and I sure don't expect people to 100% agree with some of the things I have stated above. Just don't think I'm singling anyone out, because I'm not.

^^ that is true, despite the Entrant Form saying the cars had to be clean and presentable, two cars were muddy and dirty! whilst i can see that a "Theme" may have been working with the GT4..the Prius should not have been on the ground..let alone 2 awards.
Thumbs-Up for all organisers involved and all entrants that tried or attended on the day. If there was a "Backyard Mechanic" award or a "Ghetto Mod" i may have won something. but such is not my luck with the 162 :(
as for judges looking for clean cars....well...cars that are actually driven (which is their purpose) generally aren't clean. that limits trailer whores to the award.
i liked that Japanese-only Toyota...i think it was called the Will???? i thought it was odd..and ugly...but i actually liked it.

Hi Everyone,
There have been a few questions raised about some of the awards given out at the 2007 Adelaide Toyoshow. We hope that the following information will help to clear up some of the confusion.
Firstly we would like to say a few words about the judging of the show. The judges are professional, independent judges from the Street Machine Association of South Australia (SMASA), who have many years of experience judging show cars.
The most important thing in judging a car at a show is cleanliness, followed closely by attention to detail. There were considerable point deductions for dirt and the judges were looking closely at things like under doors and the bottoms of engines. Getting your car detailed and steam cleaned went a long way towards your total point count. There were also deductions for things like floor mats and seat covers, as well as not having the entire car open during the inspection process (boot, bonnet, doors, etc.).
Many spectators and entrants have expressed that they believe that Entrant 5 purple PHNTOM Supra should have won the 2007 Toyochamp award. Let me be the first to say that his car is an exceptional example and that it indeed scored very well, however it lost out on points due to the engine bay not being cleaned and/or detailed fully. There was some misinformation floating around that his bonnet was not open during judging, but I have confirmed that this was not the case.
Entrant 1 a AE112R Corolla Levin Turbo, while not highly modified, was exceptionally clean, well maintained and presented at the show, & also met the other prerequisites for the Toyochamp Award of having attended the supercruise and dyno day events. This car's winning is a good illustration that you don’t have to have a big dollar show car to do well at the Toyoshow.
The final issue we would like to address is that of the trophies for the pre 1985 class and the 2000+ class.
At the time the trophies were ordered, there were no entries for the (Original to 1986 to 2000) class. As entries came in, they were added to the (Original to 1999) class for judging. For next year’s show we will order trophies for all of the listed classes, as we now know that we will get sufficient entries closer to the day of the show.
There were only two entries for the (Original 2000+) class, being Entrant 1 a AE112R Toyota Corolla and Entrant 37 a Toyota Hybird Prius. As Entrant 1 had won the 2007 Toyochamp award the car was not eligible for the (Original 2000+) trophy. Entrant 37 won first place in the category. It was decided to issue the 2 extra trophies from that category was to be changed to a 4th in (Modified) and a 4th in (Original to 1999), however this was not mentioned by the M.C. during the presentation. Entrant 17 a 1989 Toyota Supra and Entrant 5 a 1995 Toyota Supra have been notified of this, and will be sent replacement placards indicating the correct names for their trophies, which they can affix in place of the existing ones.
We hope that this has cleared up some of the confusion, and would like to thank you all for attending, either as a spectator, entrant or sponsor. We look forward to seeing you at our show next year.
With regards,
Adelaide Toyoshow Management Team

Was a little disapointed that the RT40 corona didn't get a mention :( was so tidy, sitting there all by itself.
Was a good day, if not a little hot, with plenty of the local tallent walking about. Sean's car Bluewire was inelegable for toyochamp as it didn't compete at the Cruze or dyno, also he was running the show along with Brian (Who for some reason didn't get a mention on the day)
